Parenting plans for young children have special considerations

On Behalf of | Mar 17, 2020 | Child Custody

Parents have children in the hopes of raising them as a team, but things don’t always happen that way. When you and your child’s other parent end the relationship while the kid is young, you might be facing some unique challenges.

Infants in particular can make the situation challenging, especially if the mother is breastfeeding. In this case, the baby might not be able to be away from her for long periods until the infant will drink from a bottle, and the mother’s milk supply is established.

During this period, the baby’s father may have to visit with the child at the mother’s house or have her and the baby come to his home. This ensures that the tiny one can eat when they get hungry.

As the child gets older and matures, they will likely be able to spend more time with their father. This needs to be done slowly in some cases because some toddlers thrive on consistency. Changes in the routine can have a negative impact on them, so slowly changing things is beneficial.

Parenting children in these early years is complicated. When both adults can work as a team to do what’s best for the children, the little ones are the ones who will reap the benefits. They will learn that they are secure with either parent and will eventually be able to thrive despite the divorce.

You and your ex will have the parenting plan to cover some of the basics of raising the children. The terms, including the schedule, should be set based on what’s best for the kids, and they can be modified as the child ages if necessary.
