Mother of rapper's child sues for child support

New York music fans may be interested to know that the rapper Future is being sued for an increase in child support. The case has roots in an earlier 2013 case involving the rapper and the mother of one of his children. In 2013, he claimed that he made $16,000 a month while the mother claimed he made more than $50,000 a month.

In a settlement reached out of court, Future received joint legal custody of the child while the mother got primary physical custody. He also agreed to pay $2,800 a month in child support, which the mother claims is no longer sufficient. She claims that Future has experienced career success that justifies an increase in the support provided for the child, and that the child has some problems because of a lack of a relationship with his father.

Specifically, the suit claims that the child does not do well in school and needs a tutor. He also needs behavioral therapy as a result of the supposed neglect. In addition to the increase in child support, the mother is also looking for him to reimburse her for court costs related to the legal action. There was no comment or statement from the rapper regarding the matter.

While parental income may be used as a metric for determining child support, it is only one factor used to make a decision about support. Other factors may include whether or not a parent has other children and the other parent's ability to provide for the child. An attorney may be helpful in getting a child support modification if an order is in place or in getting an initial order if one does not exist. Once an order is granted, it is binding until changed by a judge.
